Entrepreneur pairs prepaid wireless, service at 2 locations

Akbar Pirani buzzed into the telecommunications industry when he was 16 years old.
For three years, he worked for Verizon, which was then known as GTE.
“I learned the ins and outs of the business and decided to go on my own,” Pirani said. “I started my first cell phone location back in 2002 when I was 19.”
Since then, business has continued to ring off the hook.
Pirani runs MetroPCS at 5042 Ave. H, Suite 207, and at 2705 Ave. H, both in Rosenberg.
“Back in 2004, when I first opened a location, it was a new strip center,” he said.
“I did my research on the demographics of the city and concluded that in the city of Rosenberg, people would love to have a cell phone store that doesn’t involve credit checks and long-term contracts.”
In 2006, Pirani converted his business to an exclusive Cricket Wireless location.
However, he switched both locations to MetroPCS after finding out about its service and business model, he said.
